The Bentley Continental GT3 was unveiled by the British marque at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. This is a competition variant derived from the Bentley Continental that was specifically built to take part in the 2014 FIA Blancpain Series.
Under the bonnet of the Bentley Continental GT3 is a 4.0-litre V8 capable of delivering up to 600bhp of maximum power, but in this case moving a significantly reduced mass compared to the car from which it is derived. The Bentley Continental GT3 weighs less than 1,300 kg.
The reduction in weight and increase in power, as well as the other changes made to suit racing and the relevant regulations, make the Continental GT3 the highest performing of the latest generation Bentleys.
Derived in its aesthetic solutions from the Bentley Continental GT3 Concept Racer shown at the last Paris Motor Show, the new model features extensive use of carbon fibre for the bodywork elements and a specific design for the bumpers, aerodynamic appendages and bonnet.
Compared to the standard Bentley Continental GT, the engine has been moved back towards the cabin to achieve a 52%-48% weight distribution between the front and rear.
The gearbox has also been completely redesigned and replaced with racing components, specifically a 6-speed sequential Xtrac unit with transaxle layout (i.e. positioned at the rear differential).
Carbon fibre is also used for the drive shaft, which transmits the V8's torque to the rear wheels. The Bentley Continental GT3 is braked by a Brembo system with 6-piston callipers, while the OZ racing wheels are fitted with 310/710 R18 tyres.
